Play Submission

We are no longer accepting plays for the 2010 Pittsburgh New Works Festival. Please check back with us later in the year for the 2011 play submission date.
READ ALL PLAY SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS CAREFULLY. INCOMPLETE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED.
Playwrights are limited to one submission. To enter your play, you must submit the following:
(1) A hard copy of your play and an electronic copy (Word document)*. The first page of your play must contain only the name of the play, the characters and a physical description of each.
IMPORTANT: Your name should not appear anywhere on the play. (Judging and selection are conducted anonymously). The pages should be numbered and the name of the play should appear on each page of the play.
a. The hard copy of the play must be paper-clipped. No staples, plastic binders, hard cover or other binding.
b. Plays must use 8 or fewer actors. Staging must be simple in all technical areas. Musicals are not permitted.
c. Plays must run no longer than 40 minutes in production. (Usually the play should be fewer than 30 pages in length.)
d. Previously produced plays are not eligible. Staged readings are not considered production.
(2) A cover letter. The cover letter should contain the following information:
a. the name of the play
b. your name, address and full contact information, including an email address
c. one paragraph synopsis of your play which will be used for publicity purposes if your play is chosen and
d. one paragraph biography.
(3) One self-addressed, stamped business-size (4″ x 9 ½”) envelope.
(4) A check in the amount of $15 payable to Pittsburgh New Works Festival, Inc.

Submissions for 2011
Submissions must be postmarked on or before (date to be determined).
$500.00 to playwright whose play is chosen as best in 2011.
