30th Festival Update

After much thought and careful consideration, the board of the Pittsburgh New Works Festival has come to the sad decision that our 30th Anniversary season will be postponed until August and September of 2021

The health and safety of our artists and audience members is our top priority and we have concluded that there is no safe way to present the Festival as scheduled while adhering to best practices set forth by the CDC and Pennsylvania Health Department. While this decision is disappointing, the Festival leadership and the board unanimously agree that this is the best way to keep everyone safe. We postpone for now so that no one is missing when we come together again.

While we are not be able to gather in person, New Works will be presenting free online programming throughout the year made up of readings of new plays as well as revisiting some of your favorites from past Festivals through archival videos and live readings.

Nothing can take the place of being together to experience live theatre, but we will keep the spirit burning until the curtain can go up again!  Watch our website and social media for upcoming virtual events. You can also join our email list to get them sent right to your inbox.

We are looking forward to sharing the incredible plays that have been selected to be part of our 30th Anniversary. This year 289 playwrights from all over the world shared their talents with us.  While we may have to wait to see them on stage, it is with great pleasure that we announce the plays of the 30th Pittsburgh New Works Festival.
